Mussoorie Mountain Festival (MMF) Kicks Off This Thursday With A Focus On Conservation

Mussoorie: This year’s Mussoorie Mountain Festival (MMF) of Mussoorie is a fusion of fun and social issue regards nature. Organized by the Hanifl Centre for Outdoor and Environmental Study of Woodstock School, this 3 day gala festival which started on Thursday is following the theme of conservation of all the spheres like flora, wildlife, etc. This festival, which was earlier known as the Mussoorie Writers’ Mountain Festival (MWMF), started off with a music concert by Naga Folk and Blues performer Rewben Mashangva. This festival will bring different authors, mountaineers, photographers, mountaineers and conservationists together on one platform.

“We have one artist who will speak of restoring art in a monastery; so, conservation will be the crux of this event, which is being presented by those who have a special affinity with the Himalayas and mountain ranges,” said the festival director Mr. K Krishnan Kutty.

From a panel discussion, storytelling, photo exhibitions to various performances, the festival’s main focus will on the conservations of the Himalaya and other mountain ranges of the world. With its existence for eight good years, the festival’s legacy of strongly focusing on the mountains does not fade away. With more than 3000 people attending the festival every year, a mountain lover has a lot to choose from - talks on ‘Legend and Lore of Spiti’ by Kishore Thukral; ‘Himalaya Bound: A Journey with Nomads in North India’ by Michael Benanav; and ‘How Climbing Everest Saved My Life’, an inspiring talk by Deshun Deysel, and many more. With every year passing, the festival is growing immensely, leaving its marks on national and international literary circuits.
