By stepping on the summit of Mt. Peak 5 in the Mahalangur Himalaya, two Romanian climbers, Vlad Capusan and Zsolt Torok created history by being the first persons to reach. Mt. Peak 5 is a 6,421-metre mountain located in the southeast of Makalu base camp on the border between Nepal and China. The pair took 5 days to reach the top of the virgin peak on October 31 at 14:10. They used the mountain’s southeast ridge in alpine style.

Sharing the memorable experience, Torok said, “It was extremely adventurous to climb the technical rocky mountain that has no pre-laid route. Attempts to scale this beautiful mountain had been abandoned seven times before.”

Spending their first night of the trek at Camp 1, Torok, who has visited Nepal 6 times in the last one decade stated that, ”Climbing a virgin peak is like an art of survival. We experienced sustained winds of 95 miles per hour (150 km per hour), rain and snow.”

Recollecting the first day, Capusan said, “This climb was not going to be easy. Obviously, we had a short window of good weather. We had no form of contact, no rescue personnel. We were on our own.” Talking about the second day, Capusan said that they reached the top on October 31 at 14:10 am. The temperature was around 35 degrees below zero. So, they were not able to spend more than five minutes at the summit. The managing director of Snowy Horizon Treks and Expedition Bodh Raj Bhandari, who handled the Romanian expedition, stated that there are many unclimbed peaks in Nepal to attract potential climbers.
