The name Amedikallu in Kannada means Ame -Turtle Dikallu (Tulu Language) –Stones, as the peak forms the shape of the 3 stoned turtle from one side and as a stove from the other side. This place is at a distance of 300 kilo meter from Bangalore and close to Dharmastala the temple town worshiping the lord Manjunatha Swamy.
This is one of the important peaks of the Charmadi Belt as this mountain is part of the cyclic chain of mountains which are uniformly continuous starting from Gadaikallu near Kuderemukha and then mountains chains to Mullayanagiri of Chikmagalur and ranges of Charmadi Ghat, Bisle Ghat and Shiradi Ghat including ethina buja and ending at Nishani betta near Coorg. All the above mountain ranges are the part of world heritageous Western Ghats as declared by UNESCO.
The trekking of Amedikallu is very challenging even for a professional trekker with its routes heading in to mountain valleys and streams and thick Shola Forests and combination of grasslands. For trekking you need to have an extra energy stored in yourself as this is one amongst the toughest treks of South India which unknown beauty to be explored by the external world.
