Day 9: Khara Pathar to Sweta Glacier (5,500 m) - 5-6 h trek

Day 10: Sweta Glacier to Kalindikhal base (5,600 m) - 6-7 h trek

Day 11: Kalindikhal Base to Raj Parav (4,910 m) via Kalindi Khal (5,947 m) - 10-11 h trek

Day 12: Raj Parav to Arwatal (3,910 m) - 6-7 h trek

Day 13: Arwatal to Ghastoli (3,790 m) - 8-9 h trek

Day 14: Ghastoli to Mana to Badrinath - 6-7 h trek + 20 min drive

Day 15: Badrinath to Dehradun - 10 h drive

 

Detailed Itinerary


Day 01 : Dehradun to Gangnani -  7 hours, drive  190 km


Early in the morning we start our drive from Dehradun to reach Gangnani. This place is famous for its natural hot water spring baths. Guests can take bath in them. Dinner and overnight stay at Hotel.


Day 02 : Gangnani to Gangotri (3,048 m) - 1.5-2 hours drive: 53 km


After breakfast we drive to Gangotri via Harsil (approx 25 km before Gangotri). We can take a halt at Harsil, which is a small hamlet known for the Wilson's cottage. We reach Gangotri early and can visit the famous pilgrimage. We stay in a guest house at Gangotri.

 

Day 03 : Gangotri to Bhojbasa (3,800 m)- 7-8 hours trek: 14 km


On this day, we start our trek from Gangotri to Bhojbasa. From Gangotri we move along the beaten trail towards Chirbasa, which is on tree line. The trek today is along the roaring Bhagirathi River.


Beyond Chirbasa the terrain becomes really desolate and barren. In fact, it has been referred to as Arctic Tundra by many trekkers. From Chirbasa we trek further to Bhojbasa, the entire trail passes through dense forest. In Bhojbasa there is a small temple and a potential campsite near the river. In afternoon we are free to explore the area and to enjoy excellent sunset on Bhagirathi group of peaks.


Day 04 : Bhojbasa to Gaumukh (3,900 m) to Tapovan (4,335 m)- 7 hours 9 km


Early in the morning enjoy the panoramic view of Bhagirathi group of peaks. After breakfast we trek to Gaumukh (3,890 m), the source of the Ganges. We explore the area and trek to Tapovan, one of the finest high altitude alpine meadows in the area.


The trek from Gaumukh to Tapovan has steep ascent, and as we climb, the view of the surrounding peaks becomes clearer. They appear to be just a stone's throw away. It is also a little wonder why Sadhus and saints choose this spot for extended meditation during the long summer months.


Day 05 : Tapovan (4,463 m) rest day


This day is free for us to acclimatize, relax and enjoy the magnificent snow-capped peaks, flora, fauna, and mountain landscape. This land is frequented by some of the greatest contemporary mountaineers. The Shivling peak stands tall in front of us. Behind Shivling, towards the right is Meru. A little towards the left of Shivling, is Sumeru. The Bhagirathi peaks are visible further to the left. Bhagirathi III, Meru (Central Peak) and Sumeru have some of the hardest climbing routes in the world. We can visit the Meru Glacier and return to our campsite.


Day 06 : Tapovan to Nandanvan (4,340 m)- 6-7 h trek, 12 KM


We start the trek to reach the beautiful base of Bhagirathi group of peaks, Nandanvan.


Day 07 : Nandanvan to Vasuki Tal (4,463 m)- 6-7 h trek, 10-11 KM


On this day we trek along Chaturangi Glacier to reach Vasukital, a small but beautiful lake at the base of Mt Satopanth and Vasuki Parbat. The trek is steadily upward. We arrive in about 6 hours.


Day 08 : Vasuki Tal to Khara Pathar (Suralya Bamak - 5,450 m) - 7-8 h trek, 9-10 KM


We start our trek to Suralaya Bamak (Khara Pathar) with packed lunch. Dinner and overnight in camp is on Moraine.


Day 09 : Khara Pathar to Sweta Glacier (5,500 m) - 5-6 hours trek: 4-5 km


After breakfast, we trek to reach Sweta Glacier (5,500 m)


Day 10 : Sweta Glacier to Kalindikhal base (5,600 m) - 6-7 hours trek:  4-5 km


After breakfast, trek to reach the outlet of Suralaya valley. On the outside of the Chaturangi glacier is the outlet of Khalipet valley which is surrounded by an unnamed peak P, 6730m. and Mana Parvat. Further it's a steep and tough trek across the Suralaya glacier and along the northern slopes of Chandra Parvat. Camping place is the left lateral moraine of the Sweta glacier near its junction with the Chaturangi glacier.


Day 11 : Kalindikhal Base to Raj Parav (4,910 m) via Kalindi Khal (5,947 m) - 10-11 hours trek:  15-16 km


On this day we trek (12 km) to Kalindi Pass (5947 m). Spend some time at the beautiful spot and then trek down to camp at Rajparav.


Day 12 : Raj Parav to Arwatal (3,910 m) - 8-9 hours trek:  13 km


We start this day's trek in the morning and reach Arwatal (3,910 m).


Day 13: Arwatal to Ghastoli (3,790 m) -  8-9 hours trek:  15-16 km


This day′s trek starts early and we reach Ghastoli (3796 m), which is 16 km from Arwatal.


Day 14: Ghastoli to Mana to Badrinath - 6-7 hours trek: 16 km  2 km drive


After breakfast we start our trek to Badrinath situated on the bank of Alaknanda. A seven hours′ walk brings us to Mana Village, the last village before the border, where we take a break for lunch. Later, a small 2 km drive brings us to the town of Badrinath. On arrival check-in to a hotel. Visit the temple of Badrinath in the afternoon. Return to hotel for Dinner & Overnight stay. Badrinath, Temple is the abode of Lord Vishnu. It is situated at an altitude of 3130 m on the banks of Alaknanda. In the backdrop, the Neelkanth mountain peak is situated between the twin peaks of Nar and Narayan. The name is derived from wild berries called Badri. Near the temple is a hot water sulphur spring, Tapt Kund.


Day 15: Badrinath to Dehradun - 10 hours' drive  340 km


Morning after breakfast drive down to reach Dehradun.
