Tirthan Valley is part of Kullu district in Himachal Pradesh. As the name suggests its a valley along the Tirthan river which is one of major tributaries of river Beas. Tirthan River originates from Tirath glacier, flows through the Great Himalayan National Park (GHNP), Gushaini, Banjar and finally joins Beas at Larji Dam near Aut.

 

Tirthan river is known for its clear turquoise blue waters and its also a habitat for Rainbow trout. Please come to Tirthan valley for solace and also for Trout fishing (Angling). Also adventure activities like rock climbing, rive crossing, mountain biking and trekking can be done in Tirthan valley. Area around Tirthan river also grows apples and other seasonal fruits, people come here for apple picking during the month of July, August and first half of September.

 

There are multiple stay options in Tirthan valley, most of them are local homestays and Guest houses. For eating you have to depend on the kitchens of these homestays and guest houses as restaurants are not there in the valley. While in Tirthan you should try the local rainbow trout, it’s a local delicacy.

 

Around Tirthan there are multiple site-seeing points, some of them can be reached via jeep while you can trek to the others. Points like Sarchi, Jamala, Bathad, Banjar, Shoja, Jibhi and Jalori pass are motorable while Great Himalayan National Park (GHNP) and Hippo rock and the waterfall are to be accessed on foot.

 

The Great Himalayan National Park (GHNP), is one of India's national parks, is located in Kullu region in the state of Himachal Pradesh. The park was established in 1984 and is spread over an area of 1,171 km2 at an altitude of between 1500 and 6000 m. The Great Himalayan National Park is a habitat to numerous flora and more than 375 fauna species, including approximately 31 mammals, 181 birds, 3 reptiles, 9 amphibians, 11 annelids, 17 mollusks and 127 insects. They are protected under the strict guidelines of the Wildlife Protection Act of 1972, hence any sort of hunting is not permitted. In June 2014, the Great Himalayan National Park was added to the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites under the criteria of "outstanding significance for biodiversity conservation".
