Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Day 1 – Departure from Siliguri

We will meet in Siliguri from where our vehicle shall take us to Uttarey. We should be in Lorethang within 4 hours. Moving over an uphill slope, it’ll take another 2-3 hours to get to Uttarey. Once we reach this typical Himalayan settlement, we shall rest for the day.

Day 2: Uttarey to Chewabhajyang

This trail will take us through pastures, passes, lakes and ridges. Soon, we will see a rich forest of Rhododendrons which will envelop your senses in awe and delight. We shall then move through a rainforest and begin to climb as we near the Nepal border and Chewabhanjyang. A short walk will take us to the Singalila Peak with its astounding views.

Day 3: Day 3 – Chewabhajyang to Dhor (10 kms , 5 hrs)

Sandakphu is situated at an altitude of 3,636 m and is around 58 kms from Darjeeling and As we move uphill, the only sights worth seeing will be the expansive rice fields and cardamom plantations that present a spectacular view from this height. Today’s trek will take about 7-8 hours.

Day 4: Dhor to Pare Megu ( 8 kms , 5 hrs)

We shall rise before dawn and quickly move onto the ridge to witness the spectacular sunrise over Everest and Khangchendzonga. Today’s journey will be strenuous to some extent as it will involve climbs as well as descents and a steep rise. But, a glimpse of a herd of blue sheep over the hills should make you forget the fatigue for a while. We will also move past Hindu shrines and will finally descend to a place where we will camp for the night.

Day 5: Pare Megu to Gomathang (15 kms, 7 hrs)

Today’s Singalila Pass Trek shall begin with a steady climb to a broad valley which will take us, in 2 hours, to our camp on Everest. After passing by the Lam Pokarisacred Lake, we’ll be back in Sikkim. Walking a little further will take us to the Khag Bhir La where you can enjoy a panoramic view of the mountain peaks. After this, we will head downhill and make our camp base by the river.

Day 6: Gomathang to Dzongri (9 kms , 6 hrs)

We will walk through forests of Fir and Rhododendrons to breathe in the beauty all around us. If you keep your eyes open, you are likely to spot Danphe birds. As we continue to move upward, the icy cliffs of Kanchenjunga will come into view. We shall then head back down to Tikip Chu and take the trail towards the Goencah La. This trip shall take us through Juniper, Fir and Rhododendron forests. On reaching Dzongri, the expanse of summer pastures will be a sight to remember.

Day 7: Dzongri to Zemathang

After waking up bright and early, we move on a sloping trek that will take us past the Samiti Lake till we reach Lamuney. We will then begin an upward climb to the ridge behind the lake. Here, we will witness the spectacular sight of glaciers and gigantic snow-peaks. We will then continue moving through an alpine terrain to our campsite.

Day 8 – Zemathang to La Thangshing

Waking up to an early morning, we will head toward Goecha La. Here we will witness the wonders of nature in all its glory – snow-capped peaks, pinnacle ridges and glaciers. However, the view from the Khangchendzonga itself is beyond compare. We will end the day with a slow descent to Thanshing where we will stop for the night.

Day 9 – Thangshing to Yuksam

This is the last day of the trek. First, we will head to Tshoka, which is an enchanting Tibetan village. After interacting with the locals here for some time, we will then descend through flowering rainforests with unique birds, across bridges spanning gushing rivers, until we finally arrive back at Yuksam from where we will head home. This will be the end of the trek.
