One of the largest and oldest National Park in India, Tadoba National Park is situated in the Chandrapur district of Maharashtra. It was first established as National Park in 1955 and later declared as the tiger reserve in 1995. The name of the park ‘Tadoba’ is taken from the name of the God ‘Taru’ who is worshipped by the tribal people living in the forest areas and the River Andhari flows through the forest.
Famous for the spotting of Bengal Tiger, the total area of the park is 1727.6 sq.kms with the core area of 625.82 sq.kms and a buffer area of 1101.78 sq.kms. The park is divided into three main regions the north Tadoba region, Morhurli region and the south Kolsa range named after three water sources namely Tadoba river, Tadobalake and the Kolsa lake. The Tadoba Safari is allowed in all the three regions.
Moharli is the best spot in the park in order to spot animals. It is the most famous spot in the Tadoba Tiger Wildlife safari. This is the central part of the park. The Tadoba zone is known for scenic location as well as animal spotting. The south Kolsa zone is filled with forest region and the main focus is on the flora of the place.
