Hampta Pass Trek is one of those unusual and special passes that provide one of the most convenient and easiest trekking experiences. It might not be as thrilling as some of the other passes in the region; however, its picturesque beauty is enough to fall in love with the place. The variations of the trails, open green pastures, glacial valleys and meadows, scenic landscapes are enough to make the trekking experience a breathtaking and memorable one.
Here is the description of the trek and my experiences from the last time I went for trekking at Hampta Pass.
The trek forms a connection between two amazing valleys, Lahaul and Kullu where you will be able to experience the constantly changing Landscapes. The trail will enable the trekkers to see the resplendent flora and fauna, the lush green forests and the glimpses of the barren lands. The trek is best suited for the beginners because of its moderate difficulty level. The whole trekking experience will be full of scenic moments and adventure.
The maximum altitude of the trek is approximately 14000 ft and the trekking distance is close to 35 Kms. With a moderate level of difficulty, the time taken to complete the trek is 6 days. The daytime temperatures hover around 13 to 18 degree Celsius whereas the night temperatures can dip up to 0 to 7 degrees.
How to Reach
There are two ways by which the trekkers can reach the destination from where the trekking to Hampta begins. First is by taking a flight to Bhuntar from Delhi. There are a number of airlines that offer services and operate flights from Chandigarh and Delhi to Kullu. Once you reach Bhuntar, there are quite a few taxi services that ply on the route. A taxi can thus, easily be taken to reach Manali from Bhuntar. The maximum cost of the taxi is around INR 1000.
Alternately, you can even travel by road. As Manali is well connected to New Delhi, you can take an overnight bus from New Delhi and reach Manali in about 12 to 14 hours. There are a number of online portals through which the bus ticket can be booked. As Delhi to Manali is a long journey the private buses will leave Delhi at around 6 pm in the evening. Similarly, the return journey from Manali to Delhi will begin at around 5 pm which will make you reach Delhi at around 10 am in the morning. Hampta Pass, The First Himalayan Trek Of My Life
Below is a list of the basic gears which are necessary for trekkers to carry with themselves while on the trek. I made sure that I carried all these things with me.
- Backpack and a rain cover with comfortable shoulder straps.
- Walking stick. (At least one)
- Water bottle and hydration pack.
- Snacks that include energy bars, dry fruits, electrolytes and ORS.
- Personal Medical Kit.
I had a thrilling experience while I was on the trek and enjoyed the pristine natural beauty of the Himalayas. The preparation was the key for me that included the perfect clothing and gear that are vital for enduring the unpredictable mountain weather. Sometimes the weather can become really harsh and cold. Fortunately, I did not experience something like this. During the entire time of the trek, I maintained a normal pace or rhythm which is necessary as too fast or too slow walk can result in fatigue.
Once I reached Hampta Pass I could view the snow clad mountains on all the sides that made me feel closer to nature. Glacial valleys and attractive landscapes further enhance the beauty of the trail that leads to Hampta Pass.
Best Time to Book
A wise decision would be to book the Trek at least two months prior. This will prove to be beneficial in getting a good discount on your flight also. The best time to go for the trek is in the months of June. July, September and also the first week of October.
All in all, it was a refreshing experience that I will never forget in my entire lifetime. I urge everyone to go for the trek at least once if they get an opportunity. The trek will act as a perfect medium to get close to the mother nature and experience its real beauty. Tick Your Calendar With These 12 Himalayan Treks of India
