Kuari Pass Trek

 Kuari Pass Trek

The kuari pass trek was the first route followed by Shipton and Tilman on their way to the rishi George and by other mountaineers en route to the to the peaks on the Indo-Tibetan border.
Kuari Pass trek is also know as Curzon Trail, as the famous former viceroy of India also travelled this route. The trail was named after Lord Curzon who was a keen trekker and it is said thath the path was specially improved so that he could do the trek.
Kuari pass trek has been favourite with many mountaineers. Mr shipman in his book Nanda Devi clock in crossing this trek with these words “the top of the pass was reached at 7 oclock in the morning and we were privileged to see what one must be one of the grandest mountain views in the world.” Inspite of the view this trek promises to offer, it is a fairly moderate trek, which offers most enchanting mix of the Himalayan life with a look at a village life and there culture, wild life and great Himalayan range. The total distance of the trek is around 13 km( one way).
The crossing of the pass is a fitting conclusion to a trek that takes in three lesser passes and five major rivers - the Pindar, Kaliganga, Mandakini, Bheriganga and the Dhauliganga.
One can get truly spectacular views of the Himalayas - Trishul (23,496 ft/7,120 m) , Kedarnath (22,994 ft/6,968 m), Kamet's pyramid of granite (25,595 ft/7,756 m), Nilkanth (21,767 ft/6,596 m), the square-topped summits of Gori Parbat and Hathi Parbat, Badrinath, the icy crest of Dunagiri, Rishikot, Changabang (22,651 ft/6,864 m), Kedarnath and Chowkhamba (23,522 ft/7,128 m) and the legendary twin peaks of Nanda Devi, (25,643 ft/7,740 m), surrounded by an awesome 19,800-foot (6,000 m) wall which forms a sanctuary.
