Even though the trekking trail to Kareri Lake is located high up in the Dhuladhar range, it is quite popular as a weeked trekking destination. The trek takes the participants up to the shallow fresh water lake that is perfectly elliptical and is situated at a height of around 3100m above sea level.
The Kareri Lake trek is considered to provide a great experience to first time trekkers intending to conquer higher ranges in the future. Given the high altitude of the trekking trail it is not surprising that it is slightly difficult for the participants. However, the rich natural surrounds and the breathtaking sites of the towering mountain ranges and the refreshing walk through the pristine Oak, Pine and Rhododendron forests keeps them engaged and motivated.
The Kareri River proves to be a constant companion of the trekkers throughout the 3 days and 2 nights long trip. As the participants near Kerari Tal as the destination is popularly known, they need to negotiate over several boulders sprawled along the river bank, an effort that is amply rewarded by the sight of the glacial lake.
Tour Route : Mcleodganj - Kareri Village - Kareri Lake - Mcleodganj.
MAXIMUM ALTITUDE: - 3500Mts
DAY 1: : MCLEOD GANJ TO KARERI VILLAGE (Height 2200m distance 13Km)
the trek is goes through the pine forests and crosses several tribal villages on the way. Kareri is a Gaddi tribal village. Over night stay in one of the village houses or in tents.
DAY 2: KARERI VILLAGE TO KARERI LAKE(Height 3500m distance 14 Km)
Trail goes through mixed forests of oak, rhododendron and pine. First 2 Km is a level walk and then there is sleep ascent along Kareri Nullah Stream which has to be crossed over a number of times over improvised wooden bridges. Over night stay in tents at bank of Kareri Lake.
DAY 3: KARERI LAKE TO KARERI VILLAGE (Height 2200 Mts. Distance 13 km)
After a short from the lake is a steep descent through the will came back to Kareri Village. This will be the last day of the Tour. Early in the morning after having breakfast the group will leave back for Mcleodganj. You can also hire taxi on Extra Fare from Kareri Village or Ghera Village
