India is all set to celebrate its 71^st Independence Day on August 15. Like every year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will deliver his Independence Day address to the nation from the historic Red Fort in Delhi. This time taking the security arrangements a step ahead, the Delhi police decided to put a ban on all sub-conventional flying activities in the city till the second week of October. The ban has been imposed to prevent any unexpected incident during the Independence Day celebration.

Sub conventional flying activities include aerial platforms like paraglider, para-motors, hang-gliders, UAVs, UASs, microlight aircrafts, remotely piloted aircrafts, hot air balloons, etc. Delhi police issued a statement reading, "It has been reported that certain criminal, anti-social elements or terrorists, inimical to India may pose a threat to the safety of the general public, dignitaries and vital installations by the use of sub-conventional aerial platforms like para-gliders, para-motors, hang-gliders, UAVs, UASs, microlight aircrafts, remotely piloted aircrafts, hot air balloons, small size powered aircrafts, quadcopters or even by para-jumping from aircraft and others."

The statement adds, "The prohibition of flying of such objects on the occasion of the Independence Day Celebration in the national capital and doing so shall be punishable under law. This order shall remain in force till October 15 unless withdrawn earlier."

Additionally, the national capital will be manned by special teams of police that will neutralize the possibility of threat posed by any airborne-activity. A senior police official added, the security measure have been taken keeping in mind about the terrorists striking crowded places across the world.
