One of the least explored and most challenging treks in Garhwal Himalayas of Uttarakhan, Auden’s Col is a high mountain pass connecting Jogin I (6465 meters) to Gangotri III (6580 meters) peaks. Situated at 5490 meters, Auden’s Col Trek takes its name from a British Geographical Survey Officer named Bicknell Auden. He discovered the Auden Col pass in 1935 and crossed it successfully in 1939.

Auden’s Col Expedition starts from the most famous pilgrimage site in India, Gangotri and ends at yet another prominent pilgrimage destination having one of the twelve jyotirlingas in India that is Kedarnath. The Auden’s col pass also links two glaciers on the opposite sides that is Jogin I glacier and Khatling glacier. A difficult trek, it’s trail passes through narrow cliffs, moraines, difficult ridges and Boulders. The terrain is strenuous but at the same time offers one of the most magnificent views of peaks such as Gangotri group, Rudragaira, Jogin group, Bhagirathi group of peaks and Kedar Dome.

This trek is a perfect example of “The best view comes after the hardest climb.” It is a difficult trek and s recommended for only the highly experienced mountaineers and trekkers. The challenges faced during this trek cannot be underestimated and acclimatization is one of the crucial part of it. Besides having a strong physical endurance, you need to have utmost mental strength and an expert guide to be with you.
