The pristine untouched beauty of the Khauli Pass leaves most visitors amazed and even makes them fall in love with nature once again. Situated at a height of 3750 meters above sea level, it is one of the most charming yet long forgotten treks in Himachal Pradesh. It is located in the Parvathi River valley amidst the majestic surroundings of the Kanawar wildlife sanctuary near Manikaran. The lush green trail of this one of the most astounding destinations for trekking in Himachal Pradesh, gives the trekkers the feeling of returning to the womb of Mother Nature. They feel a soothing calm descend on their very being as they traverse the rarely travelled mountain trail dripping with unparalleled beauty.
The Khauli Pass trek takes the participants up to a relatively small mountain pass located high up in the mountains of Kullu. The pass is covered with snow for around seven months of the year, but this does not prevent the adventure enthusiasts from coming here to enjoy the unique beauty of the region. The trail offers everything that a trekking aficionado would wish for. The views of the towering peaks and giant glaciers, the walk through the bewitching landscape and the enchanting sight of buttercups and orchids in colors ranging from dark purple to pale pink, all combine to make it a perfect trek for the participants coming here from all parts of India and the world.
The trek, which is completed over a period of three days and two nights, offers a refreshing contrast from the sweltering heat, deafening noise and the unhealthy dust of the plains. Day 01: Bhuntar - Manihar - Jammu Nala (2800 mts / 4-5 hrs trek)
Report in Bhuntar at 8:00 AM. After we freshen up and have the breakfast at Bhuntar, we leave in the Tempo traveller / Jeep for Manihar (around 30 kms). The route is beautiful and for most part, one travels alongside river Beas. Once we are ready to move after quick snacks, we start our trek from Pancha where a water project work is on. Immediately after starting the trek, one can feel the dense forest with a sudden coldness in the air. Jammu Nala (our camp site) is a trek alongside the Pancha Nala for 3-4 hrs
Day 02: Jammu Nala to Grahan via Khauli Pass (max 3750 mts / 6-7 hrs trek)
Post breakfast, we head for today's target - Grahan. We start early in the morning today for crossing the pass at the time of sunrise as we witness the Indrasan, Friendship and Hanuman tibba peaks with the first rays of sunshine. We reach Padri by afternoon and asses if we have enough time to move to Grahan to day else we camp here itself. Another amenable walk down the Garahan Nala to Padri camp ground on a meadow. We reach Padari by evening followed by Bon fire and Camping at the night. A trail goes up the West side of Garahan Nala, mounting gradually through pine forest to Garahan hamlet.
Day 03: Grahan to Kasol (2280 mts / 3-4 hrs trek)- Bhuntar - Delhi
Today the target of the day is easy and hence the morning can be a bit lazy. We start the day on the descent along the Grahan Nala and move towards Kasol from where we touch the road head to Bhunter. The lunch is acked today that we have just before reaching the road head. From here, we take the taveller/jeep back to Bhuntar. Road distance would be 30 Kms.
