Manali – Leh Highway To Be Opened By May 25 For This Season

People planning for Leh road trip will now get a certainty of planning their dates as the Manali – Leh highway will be opened for vehicular traffic by May 25. The Gramphu – Kaza highway through Kunzum pass in Spiti will most probably start functioning by the end of June, an official said on Friday. Rohtang pass has finally been open to light and heavy vehicles after a gap of 4 months.

The current progress of snow clearance on different roads at Rohtang pass is being checked by Chief engineer, Project Deepak of Border Roads Organization (BRO), Mohan Lal. The snow from Keylong – Tandi – Sansari road has been cleared and Manali – Rohtang – Keylong road has also been opened for vehicles. "Of the 474km-long Manali-Leh highway, project Deepak takes care of road till Sarchu, 222km from Manali. After Rohtang, we shall now concentrate on clearing snow from Baralacha Pass to connect Sarchu. Currently, we have cleared snow till Patseo bridge, 162km from Manali," he said.
