Research by experts at the University of Cambridge says that the Sherpa’s or Porter’s in Nepal have evolved to become superhuman climbers.  They are very efficient at producing the energy to power their bodies when oxygen is scarce at high altitude.

The experts conducted an expedition to the Everest base camp where they studied on the metabolic differences between Sherpa’s and lowlanders. It has also been published in the Proceedings of National Academy of Sciences.

Mount Everest

Mount Everest standing at an astonishing height of 8,848 meters above sea level requires additional oxygen by most of the climbers. Very few have managed to do so without it. Sherpa’s don’t face any major consequences to their health and are able to live at high altitude. Taking this to their advantage, many act as guides to support various expeditions in Himalayas.
