Sandeep Toliya and Poonam Rana along with Swarnalata Dalai make up the team for the expedition. Bachendri Pal, a seasoned climber and head of Tata Steel's Adventure Program has trained and mentored the climbers to get them physically and mentally ready for the challenges they will face on the expedition.

The selection was publicly announced on March 26th and the three departed from Delhi to Kathmandu the very next day. Jiri, the starting point of their trek, is on the route of the expedition undertaken by Bachendri in 1984. This trek will help the trio to further develop their fitness, both mental and physical.

While talking about the expedition, Bachendri said: " Mount Everest represents the epitome of challenge that tests the abilities of human endeavor, leadership, strengths and weaknesses. The skills and expertise learnt for an expedition to scale Mount Everest helps the climbers to become leaders in their spheres of life and in contributing significantly to the community and the organizations they work for."

"We wish the very best to our three mountaineers for their conquest of Mount Everest," she added. Over the past 12 months, the Mountaineers have participated in various expeditions and have been given the right exposure for them to build upon their stamina and enhance their mountaineering skills.

They have been in training, carrying heavy loads up and down mountain slopes, pitching and sleeping in tents and navigating extreme climatic conditions, similar to what they will experience while undertaking the Mount Everest Expedition 2018.
