Located at 6152 meters above the sea level, Stok Kangri Peak is the highest peak in Stok Range of Himalayas. Located in Hemis National Park, Stok Kangri Peak is clearly visible from Leh and the surrounding areas. The view from the Stok Kangri peak top includes Karakoram Range to the north and Zanskar Range to the south. The difficulty level is moderate so far as you go by the rules of the mountain and acclimate yourself to the rise in altitude.
The best part about this trek is that you reach the basecamp in the time span of 2 to 3 days. For any other trek to a similar altitude, the basecamp itself would take 4 to 5 days of trekking. The other good thing about this trek is that you can reach the top of the peak without much technical expertise in mountaineering but taking this trek lightly can also be a grave mistake. The permits involved are less and anybody who is physically fit and mentally strong can think of taking up this trek.
The Stok Kangri Expedition Cost is worth spending on because going with a guide is like buying an insurance policy on this trek. The sudden change in weather as well as sudden increase in altitude leading to rarefied air are some of the factors that can make even the experienced climbers nauseas especially towards the last stage of climbing the peak.
Itinerary
Day 1 : Arrive in Leh
Day 2 : Acclimatization in Leh
Day 3 : Leh (11500 ft.) to Chang Ma (13087 ft.) via Stok Village (11800 ft.)
Day 4 : Chang Ma (13087 ft.) to Mankorma (14200 ft.)
Day 5 : Mankorma (14200 ft.) to Base camp (16300 ft.)
Day 6 : Acclimatization & Practice day
Day 7 : Base camp (16300 ft.) to Stok Kangri (20080 ft.) back to base camp.
Day 8 : Base camp to Leh
Day 9 : Departure From Leh
Day 10 : Reserve Day
