Zanskar River Rafting- True Adventure For Your Soul

 

You must have a Leh Ladakh trip planned with your wolf pack in your bucket list. Some of you must have already visited the serene and ferocious calm of this snow desert. A photo with Pang Gong Tso lake on your Facebook cover is a must then. We all know about the adrenalin rush one gets while rafting in the Rishikesh.

 

If you have tried this or planning to go to the accustomed route then I suggest you try the river rafting in Zanskar river. Zanskar river rafting is one of its kind a unique experience which throws your soul in the adventure of spirituality. Admits the sub zero temperature and bone chilling winds flowing at great speeds contributing to the wind chill effect of -10 ℃ . The place is situated at heights of 10,000 feet and above and is engulfed with the spirituality of Lord Buddha and the beauty of mesmerising monasteries.

 

The Zanskar river is north flowing tributary of Indus River and forms gorge at certain heights in the valley. These gorges are a site for extreme adventure as it provides class 5 rapids. These rapids forming a tunnel of tornado type motion which sucks you deep and provides a never forgetting and life transforming experience. In winters the valley is expelled into extreme cold. The river rafting activity is closed for the winter session but the icy river provides a memorable experience for the trekkers and is famously known as the ‘Chadar Trek ’. The rafting activity here is different from the others in two prominent features.

 

The first being that being a class 5 rapids the level of danger and uncertainty is much higher than any other rafting. This is the main boost up for the adventure loving sort. The second being that while most of the rafting experiences are around the greenery and shallow valleys. This is one of its type experience in off rugged environment with the silhouette of mountains surrounding you.


Day 1 – At Leh : On arrival it is recommended to get acclimatized to the local climate before undertaking any physical activity. Will check in hotel. From here you are free for this day, explore Leh & an its ancient culture, don’t miss the sunset in Shanthi Stupa. We will help you with guide for touring in Leh, for that we will charge extra. Overnight stay in the hotel.


Day 2 - Nimmo (30 km/3-4 hrs ride) : (Biking trip starts from here) : Morning after breakfast, our biking experts will makes you familiarize with the bikes. Thereafter the expedition will begin, and you will be riding towards Nimmo wrapprd with snow capped mountains & scenic beauty, Nimmo is the point of confluence of the River Indus and Zanskar, followed by an overnight stay in the camp.


Day 3 - Nimmo – Alchi (38 km/4 hrs) : Post breakfast we will head towards Alchi. En-route, we will be paying a visit to Basgo, which is famous for its statue of Buddha. Later in the journey visit the Likir Monastery & Alchi Monastery and get a glimpse of the beautiful culture of Ladakh. Overnight stay in the camp.


Day 4 - Alchi – Lamayuru (58 km/4-5 hrs) : Post breakfast, ride towards Lamayuru. Upon arrival visit the Lamayuru monastery. Established in the 10th century, the monastery was founded by Rinchen Zangpo. A ride to the Lamayuru Monastery will be mind blowing and beautiful, as it is located amidst majestic mountains. It is believed to be the oldest Gompa in central Ladakh. After the daylong journey, enjoy an overnight stay in the camp.


Day 5 - Lamayuru – Chilling(49 km/4 hrs) : At Lamayuru, morning we will be visiting the Lamayuru Monastery to participate in the religious ceremony held in the morning. It's a very soothing and spiritual experience to be there among these warm and friendly monks. Ride towards Chilling, one of the biggest village in Ladakh with 30 families, most of the resident families participate in rural tourism and host tourists within their houses, amazing people they are. Overnight stay in any ofthe houses.


Day 6 - Rafting from Chilling to Nimo on Zanskar river(32 km) Duration: approx 2.5 hrs : Chilling, the starting point of the rafting expedition. The basic training is given by the guides who are experienced rafters. Raft from Chilling to Nimo on the Zanskar River. On rafting on this route one can enjoy the spectacular scenery, with massive cliffs opening up to the lush green valleys, waterfalls streaming directly out of the canyon walls and glimpses of hulking high peaks in the backdrop while drifting down the river. After rafting, have a hot lunch at the camp in Nimmo and then we will head back to Leh. Overnight stay in the hotel in Leh.

 

Day 7 – Sonamarg(Drive)(337km/7 hrs) : Early morning our taxi will take you to Drass War Memorial memorial covering breath taking sceneries, Hangro loops- 18 hairpins to reach Drass War Memorial. Salute those 530 fallen soldiers in the 1999 Kargil war. Another one two hour drive over Zoji la to reach Sonamarg. Enjoy the marvel beauty of Sonamarg. Overnight stay in Sonamarg.

 

Day 8 – Srinagar(Drive)(80km/2 hrs) : After breakfast taxi will take you to Srinagar. Journey from Sonamarg to Srinagar will take you to magnificent vista of Kashmir, known for it.Do have a relaxing shikari ride on Dal lake. You have time till early evening. Fly back to Delhi
